Alaska Banks on LNG
In The Land of the Midnight Sun, Alaska’s massive natural gas resources are taking center stage in the shape of LNG.
Reese Energy Consulting today is following the latest news from Houston-based Harvest Midstream, an affiliate of Hilcorp Energy, which has made a historic first commercial sale and delivery of LNG from the Arctic’s North Slope to the state’s interior in Fairbanks.
In partnership with Alaska’s Interior Gas Utility, Harvest now provides a new energy option for residents and businesses currently relying on fuel oil and wood as a heat source, this starting in the community of Golden Heart City. The company’s CEO, Jason C. Rebrook, remarked, “For the first time in history, North Slope gas isn’t just staying on the Slope.”
And Harvest is banking on that in more ways than one.
Its North Slope LNG facility can produce 150,000 gallons per day, triple the utility’s output. Its parent, Hilcorp holds a 49% stake in the proposed 800-mile Trans-Alaska Pipeline System under development by Glenfarne, which is working with South Korea, Thailand, and Japan to get pipe rolling to export LNG to global destinations.
