We can still recall the cheers, parades, and God Bless America moment last October when the Matterhorn Express pipeline declared it was open for business. Okay, some exaggeration there, but the 580-mile natural gas system now flows 2.061 BCFD from the Permian’s Midland and Delaware to gas plants in Southeast Texas. For 13 operators, the fully subscribed Matterhorn Express has proved a huge relief to manage gas takeaway. For the Matterhorn Joint Venture, it’s time for Act II.

Reese Energy Consulting today is following the latest from the Matterhorn JV, whose owners include WhiteWater Development LLC (65%), ONEOK, Inc. (15%), MPLX LP (10%) and Enbridge Inc. (10%). The JV has now reached a FID on the 450-mile, 42-inch Eiger Express pipeline, designed to move 2.5 BCFD from West Texas to Katy, and add more connectivity to surging natural gas demand markets. The Eiger Express will source supplies from processing facilities, including those owned by ONEOK and MPLX, as well as pipeline connections in the Midland and Delaware. Whitewater will build and operate Eiger, which is slated for completion in mid-2028. At which time we’ll bring on the parade.
