U.S. LNG Industry Helps Panama Canal Break a New Record
How Cool Is This?
Reese Energy Consulting today is following the latest news on American LNG and the impact of our export terminals on its transport across the globe. Houston-based Cheniere Energy, the nation’s leading producer of LNG, just helped the Panama Canal set a record for the number of tankers using the waterway in a single day. On Oct. 1, four LNG tankers using the company’s Sabine Pass export terminal in Louisiana passed through the canal, with two traveling northbound and two southbound. The vessels included a Norwegian-flagged tanker traveling from Mexico to Sabine Pass; a Greek-flagged tanker traveling from South Korea; a Bahamas-flagged tanker traveling from Sabine Pass to the Pacific Coast of Panama; and a Marshall Islands-flagged tanker traveling from Sabine Pass to Japan. According to the FERC, nine new U.S. LNG export facilities have been approved with five already under construction. Looks like exciting times lie ahead. What do you think?
