Gas-Rich Wyoming Is Having a Big, Beautiful Moment
Reese Energy Consulting today is following the latest from Wyo., which continues to draw well-deserved attention for its vast natural gas resources, energy-friendly business environment, and wide-open spaces. All of which are temptresses these days for producers, data center developers, and West Coast LNG facilities. The Cowboy State this year has revved up its profile as a prolific and low-carbon natural gas supplier in the Land of the Powder River and Green River basins, and it’s worth taking notice.
A brief look back.
Pipeline giant Williams, a midstream OG in Wyo., added upstream assets in the Wamsutter Field to its portfolio in April to include 1.2 million acres, 3,500+ wells, and 3,000+ development locations.
Wyo.-based data center developer Prometheus Hyperscale (not to be confused with Meta’s Prometheus data center in Ohio) said “I do” in May in a three-way partnership with the state’s then largest natural gas producer PureWest Energy, and carbon-capture firm Frontier Carbon Solutions. The strategy, to attract AI tech and investors by offering a bountiful supply of low-carbon gas and a net-zero footprint. The challenge, infrastructure.
Japan has now paid a visit to Wyo. This, to discuss how best to get the state’s low-carbon gas supplies to Asian markets via LNG export terminals in Mexico. Governor Mark Gordon well understands that new infrastructure would be required for that journey, and suggests Japan invest in a natural gas pipeline to deliver Wyo., supplies to LNG terminals across the border. There’s a lot going on right now in the state renowned for the Powder River and Green River basins and REC is working with clients who own a big stake.
